Lagos Police Boss Seeks Robust Collaboration With Crime Reporters, Promises Friendly Policing Environment

The Lagos State Police Commissioner, Fayoade Adegoke who assumed duty last December has promised a robust collaboration with members of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) in his attempt to promote a friendly policing atmosphere in the State.

He has also promised criminal elements in Lagos a hellish time in the days ahead, as his officers and men were being repositioned to dislodge kidnappers, cultists, armed robbers and other violent criminals in the State even as he assured that policing Lagos would henceforth promote a more healthy and friendly relationship with law abiding citizens.

Adegoke made these known on Thursday during an interactive session with crime reporters at the Conference Hall of the Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja Lagos. The meeting was the first of such since he assumed duty in Lagos late December, 2023 as the Commissioner of Police.

While thanking the crime reporters for the cordial relationship that had existed between the media and officers and men of the Lagos State Police Command, the police boss assured that his presence as commissioner of police in charge of Lagos would bring happier days for the journalists as he would ensure a more robust collaboration in their reportage of crime and security related activities.

He enjoined the journalists to feel free in criticizing the police where necessary “as constructive criticisms” would always assist the police in doing the right thing particularly in this era efforts were made being made to always promote the rights of people. Adegoke promised to run a transparent policing system where anyone with complain or contributions to make would feel free to walk into any police station or division without fear of intimidation.

The Commissioner assured that henceforth there would a bi-weekly security tips to members of the public to enable them take precautionary measures in line with any emerging security threat. More so, he assured that the Lagos State Police command would double its effort in ensuring that peace and security reign in Lagos as no economic development would take place in an atmosphere of insecurity.

He emphasized that with increased security, economic activities of Lagos and other parts of the country would improve, thereby enabling a nation-wide development.

Meanwhile, he has vowed to clamp down on commercial motor-cycle riders who have continued to disobey the law on prohibited routes in Lagos.

Responding to the Commissioner’s speech, President of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria, Mr. Olalekan Olabulo of the Tribune Newspapers on behalf of his colleagues, assured Adegoke of maximum support, describing the CP as a friendly officer who had interfaced with many of the reporters in different capacities over the years.
