Lawyers Vow To Get Justice For Victim Of Rape

A group of legal practitioners known as International Lawyers Assisting Workers-Network (ILAW) has vowed to obtain justice for 16-year-old Miss Daniyatu Harisu who was reportedly defiled by 44-year-old Nasiru Umaru on September 2, 2021 at Mile 12 Market, Ketu Lagos.

The lawyers, through their spokesman; Barrister Onyeisi Chiemeke contended that incidents of rape were increasing embarrassingly in our society in contemporary times

obviously due to lack of diligent prosecution. They are therefore determined to use every available legal means to ensure that Umaru and his fellow rapists are brought to justice.

The suspect Nasiru Umaru has already confessed to the police that he inserted his penis to penetrate inside the virgina of the teenager and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

He is therefore facing a one count charge for an offence of rape which is punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.

Umaru who is currently remanded in Kirikiri Correctional Centre was arraigned on Thursday 7th October, 2021 at Ikeja Magistrate Court 8 with no plea taken before the case was adjourned till 23rd January, 2022.
