Lagos Stands Still For Labour Party 5 Million Man March

Peter Obi, Labour Party Presidential hopeful

By Braxton Ilobah

The much anticipated Lagos State Labour Party 5 Million Plus March has come and was worth it in every respect and assessment of it.

The solidarity march in support of Mr. Peter Obi’s Presidential aspiration, had the mammoth crowd who defied the early morning rains to throng at the entrance of the National Stadium Surulere as early as 7am in the morning of Saturday.

The thousands of supporters marched through the length of Ikorodu road, and all the way to Maryland round about, as led by the state party chairman himself, Comrade Olukayode Salako and Mr. Charles Oputa (Charly Boy); while some other support groups of the party and Peter Obi, had their support rallies at Festac, Ikeja and Lekki simultaneously.

The huge support fan-base of Peter Obi that kept increasing by the day with different solidarity rallies, across the country should be a source of worry at this point for both the incumbent political party, the APC and the major opposition party, PDP, as we draw closer to the 2023 general election.

At the Lagos rally, most support groups in their thousands, had placards and banners with different inscriptions like “
INEC, allow God to use you wisely”, “I am Obi’dient”, “Obi is the Messiah”, ‘My party is the next ruling party in Nigeria’ etc.

While fielding questions with the newsmen, Comrade Salako congratulated the Obi-dients; all the party members and supporters of the party as well as people of all good wishes in Lagos State for coming out en mass to vent their frustration with the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. He said every Nigerian is tired the way the country is being run, and are looking for solution to their problems.

Salako said the highly successful revolutionary rally is a response of the resolve of the people towards changing the ruling party for a new Nigeria they yearn for, because Nigerians want a better country, a country where the youths won’t be agitating to get visas at all cost to leave their country, a Nigeria where electricity works, a Nigeria that works like what I see in the USA, Canada, UK, etc; that is what the crowd here today at yearning for, he said.

Nigerians kept voting governments that have been failing them, governments that lacks the character and sincerity of heart to lead the country to appreciable economic prospects and ideal security assurances.

The Lagos State party chairman said the rallies currently going on in many parts of Nigeria were nothing short of revolution.

“Nigerians are angrier; they are more miserable that their situation was when they voted out PDP in 2014 for APC to come in.

“Nigerians are sad, Nigerians are not happy, Nigerians want a better version of Nigeria. They want a country where they can give birth to children and raise their children here, not a country where they will give birth to children and be thinking of how to send them abroad for a brighter future, while the parents leave alone here.

“Nigerians want the type of Nigeria that Peter Obi is promising. Everybody is already connected to Peter Obi Presidential Revolution; his messages are sinking into the consciousness of Nigerians.”

Salako seized the opportunity to release names of the just constituted caretaker local government Chairmen of the party as part of the formidable structure the party is building in the state.

“The leadership of the Lagos State Labour Party (LP) congratulates all the chairmen that their names have been unveiled and urged them to work strictly in line with the mission of the chairman of the party in the state, which is, to make Labour Party the next ruling party in Lagos State”. He concluded.

Charly Boy who encouraged the rally from start to finish told the media in his speech said “Our mumu don do, we want a new Nigeria where everything works, where students won’t be home when they should be learning at school because ASUU strike”.

The men of the Nigeria Police Force, however, deserve encomium for their supportive and peaceful conducts during the rally.

The rally procession started at the main bowl of the Surulere National Stadium and ended with a convergence fanfare at the freedom tunnel in Maryland.
