The flamboyant marriage ceremony last weekend at Ubulu-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State between Lagos based businessman; Chief Fruitful Mekwunye and an Asaba based socialite Uche; fondly called “Ada Jesus” may have come and gone but the attractions that came with it would not be forgotten in a hurry.

This is evident in the fact that Nigeria’s sitting Deputy President of the Senate, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, Senator Peter Onyeluka Nwaoboshi and other chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were physically present to grace the occasion which made Ubulu-Uku to stand still last Saturday given the number of high profile guests.

Despite the fact that, top class traditional rulers, notable businessmen, government officials and so on were among the dignitaries at the marriage reception which held at Idegwu Primary School, Ubulu-Uku, some social commentators have described the event as a great political grandstanding and

sign of what to expect in 2023 governorship election in Delta State.

Ubulu-Uku town before now had been known as a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) dominated community but with the presence of APC chieftains at

the marriage of Chief Mekwunye and Ada Jesus both of whom are APC members with some high level connection, there is a strong feeling that the 2023 election may not be a work over for PDP in the area.

AtlanticNewsonline gathered that the marriage reception was more of an APC affair as the known PDP chieftains in the area stayed away in spite of communal linkage that would necessitated their presence as a son and a daughter of the town were celebrating their marital union.

A reliable source hinted AtlanticNewsonline that the incumbent Commissioner of Culture and Tourism, Engr. Lawrence Ejiofor who is a PDP stalwart from Ubulu-Uku had initially graced the occasion possibly in the spirit of oneness, but later left when the presence of APC members became overwhelming.

The ceremony was however packaged in a manner that all guests were adequately taken care of with sumptous meals, choice drinks just as they were being entertained by different dance groups.

Notable community associations, church leaders, local politicians, security operatives, youth bodies amongst others were also in attendance in what can be described as one of the biggest marriage ceremonies in the town in recent times.

Foods of different kinds were served in quantum and assorted drinks were on display at different corners of the event centre amid tight security.

The large expanse of Idegwu Primary School football field could not accommodate the large fleet of exotic cars that were pulling into parts of Ubulu-Uku close to the venue of event.

A few guests who spoke to AtlanticNewsonline on the marriage, said the crowd attracted by the marriage was expected because the couple were not

just ordinary citizens but very unique people who over the years have assisted their fellow human beings in different capacities.

While the husband holds the chieftaincy title of Ekwueme of Ubulu-Uku, his wife goes by the popular name of Ada Jesus.
