As the 2023 general elections draw closer, a students’ group under the leadership of Comrade Onyishi Oghenetega has called on all Deltans to support the governorship aspiration of Chief James Augoye.

Comrade Oghenetega, who is a former Secretary General of the National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Committee, Delta State made the call in a statement on Monday after a closed door meeting with students leaders within and outside the State at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources,(FUPRE) Effurun.

The former NANS Chieftain who is convening Augoye Students Support Group (ASSG) to mobilize support for the former Commissioner for Works, also appealed to the leaders and stakeholders of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State Chapter to throw their weight behind Augoye.

Arising from the closed door meeting, the students group scored Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration high and called on delegates of the PDP to deliberate and consider Chief Augoye as the best choice to sustain the legacy of Governor Okowa, and also build new legacies.

“It is no news that Governor Okowa has done well in regards to infrastructural development, educational revamp, human capital development and the health sector.

“With Okowa’s scorecard, indeed it’s crystal clear that the Peoples Democratic Party will win the governorship race come 2023 but that can only be possible if the party presents someone who has the characteristics of His Excellency Gov. Okowa and ready to consolidate on the stronger Delta Mantra because the government ought to be a continuity.

“Such a worthy personality can only be found in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and we as students who are 70% youths in the society have found such personality and that personality is Chief James Augoye.

“Chief James Augoye knows what governance and democracy entails, having served in different capacities in the local and state level. His character is just too perfect. He is humble, smart, calm and remains a developer.

“When talking about the Road Master, Gov Okowa, one can easily point out Chief James Augoye as a driver to that slogan.

“We’re appealing to the leadership of PDP and delegates to consider Chief Augoye for Delta State Governorship ahead of 2023,” Oghenetega stated.
