The Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Governor on Health Monitoring, Dr. Michael Nwoko has enjoined all adults in Delta State to take advantage of the availability of Covid-19 vaccines in the State to get vaccinated, assuring them of the safety and efficaciousness of the vaccines.

This advice came on
Thursday in Asaba during a lecture he delivered to sensitise community stakeholders on the dangers of Covid-19 and how to prevent it. The Lecture was part of the award ceremony put together by the Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria, ACNPN, Delta State Council.

The lecture which attracted a loud ovation evidently underscored the fact that Dr. Nwoko who was the Guest Speaker was able to drive home his point, thereby convincing every adult participant on the need for Covid-19 vaccination.

During the lecture which theme was “Community Media, Covid-19 and Proper Information Management”, Nwoko was able to use relevant data to convince his audience that the Covid-19 case was not actually as simple as most citizens were trivialising it to be.

He affirmed that Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa has done so much to guarantee the safety of Deltans against Covid-19 by effectively mobilizing and coordinating the State’s health work force to deal with the situation which helped to flatten the curve against the disease and this has resulted to just a little below 4000 cases of Covid-19 with about 106 deaths so far in the State. He added that it is appropriately necessary for every adult in the State to get vaccinated as the Vaccines are safe, efficacious and available across the 25 Local Government Areas in the State.

Nwoko however, appealed to the various community opinion leaders and stakeholders present at the Publishers’ Media Award Ceremony to particularly help the government of Delta, Nigeria and generally the continent of Africa and the world to achieve their Covid-19 vaccination policies in the interest of all and safe environment free of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Governor’s aide praised the resilience of his principal Dr. Okowa in tackling the spread of Covid-19 in the state, thereby emerging as one of the few state Governors that proactively addressed the curtailing management of the virus from outbreak, testing, treatment and vaccination.

Moreover, for his effort as one of the leading expert voices in driving the state policy on Covid-19, Dr Michael Nwoko was honoured with the ACNPN Community Champion Award, in recognition of his contributions towards Strong Advocacy for Covid-19 Vaccination and Efficient Health Administration in Delta State.

Presenting the award to him, the Omu Anioma/Nneoha, Her Royal Majesty Obi Martha Dunkwu described Dr Michael Nwoko as a sound Appointee in Gov. Okowa’s administration, whose passion and commitment towards Covid-19 management has been able to convince all to comply strictly to the World Health Organisation’s advice for vaccination. She commended him for being a blessing to humanity at this critical point in history.

Dr. Michael Nwoko is not just a graduate of the University of Benin; he also attended the John’s Hopkins University, the University of Pennsylvania and the Atlantic International University, all in the United States of America. He is a member of professional bodies like Health Care Committee of Pearland Chamber of Commerce, Texas, United States; Health Care Administrator’s Association (HCAA), United States; American Public Health Association (APHA) and Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health, United Kingdom.
