A young man suspected to be a cultist has reportedly hacked his father to death with an axe at Issele-Uku in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State on Friday.
AtlanticNewsonline gathered that the young man identified as Kido Onyeyai attacked his father; Mr. Ikechukwu Onyeyai in the farm when he (Kido) was confronted for harvesting his father’s crops without permission.
Sources at Issele-Uku said Kido who is in his late 20s has been an irresponsible member of the family in Ukpai quarters of Issele-Uku, the headquarters of Aniocha North Local Government Area.
He was suspected to belong to a cult group, members of which have not been meaningfully engaged but involved in social vices and irresponsible acts.
It was gathered that soon after the news of the attack and subsequent death of the Septuagenarian, some gallant villagers mobilised themselves and launched a man hunt for the young Kido. He was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police. He is believed to have made confessional statement.
An anonymous villager who knows the young suspected killer very well told AtlanticNewsonline that Kido may have acted on the influence of hard drug as he belonged to a group of charlatans involved in cult related activities in the community and were always feeling high.
When contacted, Delta State Police spokesman, Bright Edafe, a Deputy Superintendent of Police confirmed the incident and arrest of the suspect.
He however, said that investigation was yet to begin with a view to ascertaining how the incident occurred.
The murdered Ikechukwu Onyeyai was a retired health officer with the Local Government Service Commission and was said to be averagely well to do. Apart from Kido, he had other children.
