Arrangements are in top gear towards celebrating the 2022 edition of the United Nations Association of Nigeria (UNAN) Day with the inauguration of its Executive Committee and fund raising for the execution of its Five Key Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Mrs. Joan Agha – UNAN President

According to a press statement issued at the weekend by the President of UNAN; Mrs. Joan Agha and Chairman of the Organising Committee; Mrs. Ifeoma Nwuke the event would hold on Wednesday July 20, 2022 at the Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island Lagos beginning at 11am.

With its theme as “United Nations SDGs and the imperative of targeted social responsibility action in Nigeria,” UNAN intends to aid in promoting the SDGs which are anchored on transforming lives through five powerful drivers of People, Planet, Prosperity, Peace and Partnership. This is in a bid to combat humanity’s greatest challenges of poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice.

The press statement further stated that “it is UNAN’s quest to aid this blueprint to achieve a better and sustainable future for all and to enjoin all and sundry to take action with social responsibility for one another starting with disadvantaged areas and people in Lagos State.

In the words of Mrs. Joan Agha, “we are already in the 7th Year of this Masterplan since UN declared the 17 SDGs in 2015. Our role therefore is to solicit support from partners, collaborators and benefactors in improving lives through SDG 1, 2, 6 and 8 which state “no poverty, no hunger, clean water and sanitation and decent work and economic growth.”

The Association has enjoined members of the public to attend the event and use in a new era of cooperation and prosperity with the inauguration of the key drivers of the project which among other things aim at benefitting Lagos State citizens as inaugural beneficiaries.

The UNAN was established as a civil society arm of the United Nations in Nigeria many years ago by Prof. Babatunde Fafunwa; a foremost educationist and one time Minister of Education. He is now of the blessed memory.
