MEET FRANK OSHANUGOR

By Frank Oshanugor
The title of this write up is borrowed from renowned playwright and Nobel laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka whose book “THE TRIAL OF BROTHER JERO” was a must-read as a literature piece in our days in secondary school.

I therefore give credit to Soyinka for providing the platform upon which this article is situated, ostensibly for the near similarity in his JERO and Pastor Chris Okafor of Mountain of Liberation & Miracle Ministries, Lagos whose extra-pastoral activities have dominated the headlines in recent time, particularly in the social media.
Since December, 2025 when Nollywood actress Doris Ogalla went to town with the story of her amorous relationship with Pastor Okafor and how “the man of God” abandoned her for another lady in marriage, it has been one accusation coming after another.

Initially, when the drama unfolded, it appeared as though Doris was over-reaching, with many members of the public showing some emotional disapproval of the lady’s lamentations.
Okafor, perhaps did not envisage the rage that was coming from the Nollywood actress when he ignored her and went ahead to solemnize his marriage with his new catch. His showmanship may have worked in the past with some other ladies without catching the attention of the public, but certainly not with Doris Ogalla.
As the screen goddess upscaled her anti-Okafor posturing using any available medium to disclose the aggrieved state she was, Pastor Okafor obviously basking in the euphoria of his new marriage and the compliments of his admirers, did not really do much to take Doris seriously until she went ahead to spill more beans.
Interestingly, the Pastor suddenly made a U-turn by coming to the altar some days to make an open apology to Doris Ogalla and all those he may have offended. He even knelt down as he was asking for forgiveness at the altar.

In an emotionally laden statement, he posited that not everything Doris said was true, but he was not ready to join issues with her. He even went as far as pledging to make restitution to any lady he may have offended explaining that he was not a perfect man.
Obviously burdened by the weight of allegations against him from Doris Ogalla and other ladies who cashed in, on the existing controversy on the horizon, to frame him with one pastoral misdeed or the other, Pastor Okafor in the process of begging for forgiveness also asked for prayers from his church members and others.
Just a few days ago, the Pastor was alleged to have chosen to proceed on one month “leave” from pastoral activities as he needed such time to reconcile with God and start on a new slate. Doris was reportedly objecting to such recess as according to her, Pastor Okafor must tell the public how her younger brother died and the role he allegedly played.

As more voices were coming from the ‘wilderness’ including VERYDARKMAN who, for some controversial reasons associated with Okafor’s daughters, has vowed to de-robe him of his priestly garment, authorities of the Lagos State Police Command invited the Pastor to come for explanation over some alleged crimes.
A section of the media reported that Okafor was summoned to see the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Panti, Lagos on Monday 5th January, 2026 over allegations of multiple rape, sexual offences and other acts capable of triggering a breakdown of public peace.
For now, the cleric is assumed innocent of all the allegations or accusations leveled against him until they are proved beyond reasonable doubt in any competent court after the police investigation.
However, in spite of such assumption of innocence on his part, the fact that he could have such barrage of allegations against him as a “man of God” leaves a big question mark on his pastoral trajectory over the years.

Though still innocent, yet Okafor’s case may be a further confirmation of the award winning NEWSWATCH Magazine Ray Ekpu’s assertion over two decades ago in one of his articles that “when it comes to the issue of romance, no man is superhuman.” Pastor Okafor is certainly not superhuman.
As investigators interrogate him, I can only join others to pray for the funky pastor that the good Lord will show him mercy and deliver him from this rocky road to Golgotha.
