In a proactive move to prevent any security breaches during the ember months particularly as Christmas celebration is fast approaching, Delta State Police Commissioner, Olufemi Abaniwonda has held a strategic security meeting with members of the Bankers Forum in the State.

The meeting became imperative in realization of the fact that such periods in the past had witnessed increased influx of people into the state and also likely increased activities of criminals.

In attendance was the Chief security officer of the Asaba branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria and thirty nine head of banks across the State. The meeting was aimed principally at addressing the security of banks ahead of the yuletide season that is fast approaching.

The Commissioner who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) Olumuyiwa Adejobi noted that, “it is important for bankers to take adequate security measures to checkmate the activities of criminals who may want to take advantage of the festive period.

“Aware of the fact that the Command and Asaba are bounded by the East, Edo and other parts of the country, it is important for these security strategies to be reviewed. The DCP (Operations) advised that “the installation of advanced and functional CCTV cameras in the banking environment has become very important to support the effort of the police in monitoring what goes on in the banking environment.”

The Chief Security Officer of Central Bank of Nigeria, Mrs Evangeline Patrick commended the Command for this initiative and stated that they do not release cash to banks who are not armed with adequate number of Policemen on special escort.

Adejobi reiterated the Command’s commitement in the fight against crime and criminality in the state noting that the meeting “is just a tip of the iceberg in the proactive measures being taken by the Command to ensure that we have a crime free Ember months.”
