MEET FRANK OSHANUGOR

By Chiedu Paul
In our clime, the unscrupulousness of many people in the corridors of political power has often misled many Nigerians to conclude that all politicians or those in the political class are misfits and
unworthy of any honour. However, this is absolutely not correct as there are many decent politicians who are worthy of honor by virtue of their service to their constituency and Nigeria as a whole.
One of such political figures is Senator Onyesoh Allwell Heacho who is serving his first term, representing Rivers East Senatorial District at the National Assembly on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Senator Onyesoh joined mainstream politics in 1993 when he was elected as Chairman of the (now defunct) National Republican Convention (NRC) in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State.
In 1996 following the formation of new political parties, he contested and won the Etche Constituency II seat in Rivers State House of Assembly under the platform of the United Nigeria Party (UNCP) which is now defunct.

In 2008, Senator Onyesoh was appointed as the Chairman of the Senior Secondary School Management Board, Rivers State. Subsequently, he was appointed the Commissioner for Sports by Dr. Peter Odili, the then Governor of Rivers State. Prior to his sojourn in mainstream politics, Onyesoh was a lecturer at the Rivers State School of Basic Studies from 1984 to 1989.
From 1991 to 1993, he was employed as a lecturer at the Rivers State College of Arts and Science, Rumuola Road now Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic, Port Harcourt where he rose to the position of Senior Lecturer in 1994 to 1997.

I met distinguished Senator Onyesoh for the first time when I joined Dr. Jerry Amadi Esq, to make a presentation of vital law books covering areas like Civil Procedure, Law of Evidence and Law of Limitations.
The lawmaker has warm personality that clearly reveals the qualities in him. Since then, I have carefully followed his political trajectory and have found out that he stands out as a true representative of his Senatorial District with evidences to show for it.

Within his two years in office as a Senator, Onyesoh has attracted numerous projects for his people and these include solar light projects, road construction, building of schools, scholarship programmes for students at home and abroad, United Kingdom specifically. He has also provided job opportunities for the unemployed and more other dividends of democracy.
I therefore want to use opportunity to thank him for his show of love and humility as a servant of his people, particularly the empowerment of many indigenes including Godswill Onyegbu Esq, a friend of mine.
For his all encompassing services to his constituency, Senator Onyesoh would remain his people’s choice for a long time to come as his love and commitment to service transcends any selfish ambition. His services to his people in the past two years are quite evident of his determination to entrench people-centred representation in the days ahead.
