Privately owned Landmark College located in Ikorodu, Lagos State on Saturday organised a high level annual inter-house sports competition for its students, blending it with some display of Nigeria’s dressing culture particularly of the Yoruba race. It was obviously a rich display.

The event which was the 16th Edition since the College was founded years ago featured the active participation of students of the four existing houses in the college. The houses were Ixora (Blue), Viola (Red), Lily (Green) and Zinna (Yellow).
The interesting show of talent by a good number of the students in the field and track events revealed that the College serves as a breeding ground for future stars not only in academics but also in the world of sports.
The one day event which began with a welcome address by the Principal of the College, Mr. Niyi Olusesi, witnessed the active participation of both male and female junior and senior secondary school students in various activities. The events covered match past, 100 metre race for both junior boys and girls, 200 metre for both junior and senior boys and girls, 4×100 metre relay for junior and senior boys and girls, 800 metres Open race for boys and girls, Egg & Spoon race for junior girls, Sack race for boys, Tug of War, 100 metre staff race for males and females, 100metre race for parents. There were other activities.
In his welcome address, Mr. Olusesi while appreciating the vision of Mr. Isiaka Idowu Oyebamji for founding the College years ago, said “it is important to note that sports play a vital role in the holistic development of our students. At Landmark College, we believe that education goes beyond the classroom. Through sports, students embrace hard work, team spirit, diligence, self discipline, mutual respect and integrity — values that will guide them throughout their lives.”

He further stated that “our Inter-House Sports Competition provides a platform for our students to showcase their talents, strength and resilience. Today, our four vibrant houses – Zinnia, Lily, Ixora and Viola will compete with pride and enthusiasm.”
The inter-house sports competition which held at the Landmark College standard sports complex attracted hundreds of parents and other guests from different walks of life. They were well entertained by the students whose show of strength even under the scorching sun proved the much endurance training they must have received from the College over time.

The match past by students of the four houses showed their unique ways of proving excellence. Each of the houses had some unique selling point that made them outstanding in their own right.
For instance, students of Lily (Green) House drew spectacular attention with the two live horses that carried beautifully dressed “couples” whose appearance was

royally resplendent. The horses and their riders were at the rear of the students on match past as part of the contingent.
Similarly, students of Zinna(Yello) made an outstandingly unique appearance by some members dressing differently in attires of costly fabrics commonly found

among the Yorubas. The whole atmosphere literally wore some grandeur colours that clearly tells that Landmark College is a school in its own class.
At the end of the competition in various field and track events, Lily House clinched the First position while Zinnia took the Second position. The Third and Fourth positions went to Viola House and Ixora House, respectively. Those who emerged as winners were rewarded with prizes and decorated with medals as they took

handshakes with the owner of the College, board members at the occasion and other dignitaries.
No fewer than ten out of the 25 invited secondary and primary schools were present at the event. They also participated in some field and track activities. Among the invited secondary schools were Thames Valley College, Shagamu, Homat Pivotal College, Ikorodu, Goshen international School, Nuru Islam College, Ikorodu, Kings Field College, ijede Ikorodu, Yintab Academy, Ikorodu, Strong Tower Academy, Ikorodu and others.

The 16th annual inter-house sports competition would certainly not be forgotten in a hurry.
