MEET FRANK OSHANUGOR

By Frank Oshanugor
Amidst increasing spate of insecurity, polarisation of political, traditional, social and ideological camps among the indigenes of Ubulu-Uku in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State, a newly constituted Interim Reconciliation & Caretaker Committee (IRCC) by the Monarch, has sued for peace and cooperation of all, towards taking the community to a higher developmental level.

In a press statement at the weekend, Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Goodwill Emeka Ofunne
said “our formerly peaceful town has recently faced numerous challenges, including Terror, Insecurity, Kidnapping, Unauthorised actions, Lawlessness, and other serious issues.

“It has become evident that Ubulu-Uku was heading towards the precipice and disaster if urgent action was not taken. In response to this growing crisis, His Royal Majesty (HRM) Obi Noah Akaeze 1, enacted essential remedial measures, leading to the formation of the Interim Reconciliation and Caretaker Committee (IRCC) and other significant pronouncements.

“The IRCC reaches out to you with a message of peace—not to judge anyone, but to promote reconciliation and foster a spirit of repentance & patriotism, peace, and unity. Our Sovereign Royal Majesty serves as a father to all of Ndi Ubulu, regardless of their actions. His primary goal is to restore peace, prosperity, and harmony to the Ubulu kingdom.
As we are reminded in the book of Truth, the Bible, “A house divided against itself cannot stand.” True peace cannot be achieved without genuine repentance, agreements, and reconciliation.

“If we do not embrace peace in Ubulu, we will hinder our development, damage co-existence among Ndi Ubulu, and push the younger generation away from our town. The IRCC is confident that no citizen of the Ubulu Kingdom wishes to see this occur. We must be ready to welcome peace and allow Ubulu-Uku to move forward.”

According to Prof. Ofunne, a former lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt, “Our primary goal is to create a peaceful environment in Ubulu-Uku. We aim to reconcile differences and urge every citizen of the Ubulu-Uku kingdom to exercise their freedoms and spirit of life and let live.”

On behalf of the Committee, he has earnestly solicited the cooperation of everyone “to restore our once-peaceful town to prosperity, for divided we fall, and united we stand. We are striving for reconciliation, peace, and free, fair and credible election of Ubulu-Uku sons and daughters that will be generally acceptable to all Ubulu citizens worldwide to manage our Community through established bodies like Ubulu-Uku Development Council (UDC), Ubulu-Uku Youth Development Council (UYDC)amongst others, to facilitate and promote lasting peace and developmental activities in the Ubulu-Uku kingdom.”

To achieve this, he said, “we have planned and indeed commenced reaching out to identified stakeholders to understand the root causes of the problems in the Ubulu-Uku Kingdom. The findings from these planned interactions will be meticulously collated without any bias and presented to our dear King, HRM for further discussion and review with relevant stakeholders to pave way for the rebirth of the new Ubulu-Uku Kingdom of our Dream.”
The Committee has therefore welcomed and encouraged all individuals and groups of Ubulu-Uku Kingdom who have any contributions to reach members of the Committee via Calls, Memoranda etc through channels that will be communicated to all later.
“We also seek the support of organised Associations, the political groups, Ubulu-Uku Development Union (UDU) College of Presidents for effective contributions in the building of the peace bridges across Ndi Ubulu home and abroad.”
The Committee further stated of plans to conduct elections for the UDC and UYDC Executives, as requested by His Royal Majesty, once the parties agreed to live in peace in the Ubulu Kingdom, with the cooperation of the Delta State Government agencies even as it promised to ensure that the mode and supervision of these elections adhere to standard certified processes that shall usher in new executives for both bodies.
To stem further escalation of the poor situation of things at Ubulu-Uku, the six-member interim committee, has given itself six months from now to organise a credible peace process and the election of new executive members of UDC and UYDC.
“With the expected maximum support and cooperation of all, we may beat this deadline to the Glory of our Almighty Lord and joy of our forbears and all living Ubulu-Uku indigenes,” the Committee assured.
The IRCC has therefore appealed to all Ubulu Sons and Daughters worldwide “to please STOP the current practice of ”WASHING OUR DIRTY LINENS IN THE PUBLIC. The various postings in the media especially the internet, some of them disgustingly bad and even abusive to our
prominent Sons and Daughters and even to the Office of His Royal Majesty should please be stopped forthwith.”
The Committee described the prevailing situation in the community as “an ill wind that will never blow anyone well but will rather unnecessarily delay or completely destroy the prospects of reconciliation and return to the peaceful resolution of all the issues tearing our Kingdom apart.
“Ubulu people are renowned for their Wisdom, Restraint, Decorum,Decency and generally Peace/Loving disposition. We certainly are not what a few unpatriotic people in our fold are projecting us to look like now,” the Committee stated.
In the words of the Committee, “no sacrifice is too great for our hometown. The IRCC promises neutrality, fairness, peace, and progress. Once again, we appeal for your understanding and the cooperation of all our illustrious politicians, organised associations, unions and Obi in Council, existing subcommittees and groups, such as the Electricity and Security Committees, to ensure the success of this initiative and to help advance our Ubulu-Uku kingdom.”
