The people of Anieke community in Ubulu-Uku, Delta State would not forget in a hurry the peaceful and Godly life of Mrs. Regina Nwabuokei-Michael who died recently at the age of 92 years.

The nonagenarian who was survived by two younger siblings, six children, grand children and great grand children was a woman generally loved in the

community for her amiable carriage that endeared her greatly to a lot of people who crossed her path during her life time.

She had begun her early education in the old city of Ibadan now the Capital of Oyo State through the help of her mother’s younger sister some decades ago.

Regrettably due to some circumstances, she could not continue her education as initially planned. She was subsequently introduced into apprenticeship in the trading enterprise.

She later returned to Ubulu-Uku to live with her parents during which she got married in the 1950s to Mr. Obugonwa Michael with whom she subsequently relocated to Port Harcourt to live as husband and wife.

The husband had secured employment there as a carpenter and to support the family, the young Regina established a small scale business there in Port Harcourt. Years later, some circumstances compelled them to relocate to Ubulu-Uku.

As a skilled craftsman, her husband secured employment with Solel Bonel, one of the oldest and largest construction and civil engineering companies in Nigeria then. At Ubulu-Uku she settled down to farming with a combination of weaving of traditional cloth (Akwa Ocha).

Remarkably, around 2006/2007, she gave her life to God and became born again through the ministration of her children. She was a devout member of Jesus Sanctuary Church, Ubulu-Uku, but later in 2016 following the death of her husband, she relocated to live with her children in Lagos.

Incidentally, in Lagos her passion for the things of God grew stronger as she became a member of Pastor Paul Enenche’s Dunamis International Gospel Church. She worshipped with Dunamis Church until her death in 2025.

Buried on December 29, 2025 in the family compound at Anieke in Ubulu-Uku, with some measure of celebration of life well lived, the children, grand children and great grand children of the late Mrs. Regina Nwabuokei-Michael would not forget in a hurry the good and exemplary life she lived as a mother, grandmother and great grand mother.

Family members, inlaws, friends, associates and well wishers were in great numbers at the Christian burial coordinated by members of her Dunamis Church, majority of whom came from Asaba, Ogwashi-Uku and Ubulu-Uku branches of the church.

Speaking with ATLANTICNEWSONLINE soon after the burial, one of her children, Mr. Kingsley Ukwandi Michael said his late mother was a “very committed woman who was ready to go to any length to care for her children.

“She loved peace and preached peace. She loved God, hence it was possible for her to raise and nurture her children with the fear of God. My mother taught us love and cared so much for us.”

According to Kingsley, his mother was a good community woman whose cordial relationship with her fellow women married to men in Anieke community was outstanding. She was quite peaceful and friendly such that over time, she became a reference point amongst other women.

Her personal contributions to issues that would advance the interest of families in the community were often needed, as she had always advocated peace and harmony in any situation.

Four of her grandchildren who gave tributes at her burial spoke in a similar vein. Their common description of their late grandmother was that she was a woman of peace. One of them Favour Nwaneka Michael said “I watched her generosity extended not just only to those who knew her but to anyone who was lucky enough to be in her presence. One of the things I remember most was that Mama always loved to make peace with everyone. She lived with open heart.”

Another grandchild, Emmanuel Kingsley Michael said the late Mrs. Regina Nwabuokei-Michael was a source of strength to the family and those who had privilege of staying with her. Though I may not have had the opportunity of living with her but her kindness has manifested through the children she raised. Her wisdom reflected in every one around her.

Another grandchild, Victory Akpatiaku described her, as a true definition of a mother just as she recalled many good qualities of the nonagenarian.

Similarly, another of the grandchildren Law Supreme Chiweike had this to say: “Mama, you were our greatest gift, our strength, our comfort. Your love was pure, your sacrifices beyond measure. Though you are no longer with us, yet your spirit lives with us every day.

“Mama was a prayerful and loving woman whose life was true reflection of God’s grace. She was kind to everyone and always ready to give a helping hand, always ready to bring peace where there was strife. Her peace was unwavering. Your legacy of peace and love will forever live in our hearts”, he concluded.
