A famous group in Nigeria’s music space known as ‘Danfo Drivers’ has planned a serious bouncing back with a scheduled musical tour of Canada, come December, 2025. This would be one major international outing after the death of one half of the Danfo Drivers duo, Oghenemaro Emeofa (a.k.a. Mad Melon) in 2019.

The Canada shows would feature the remaining one half of the group, Jimoh Olotu (a.k.a. Mountain Black) leading other band members on the international engagement that would take them to seven Canadian cities.
The band would have its maiden show on 5th December, 2025 in Toronto and followed consecutively in 6th December in London, 12th December in Ottawa and 13th December in Montreal.
The show would shift on 19th December to Vancouver, 20th December in Calgary with the last show scheduled for 27th December in Edmonton.

In a press release from London, United Kingdom, Rachael Nwafor, Chief Executive Officer of Alberta Ice Promotion; the record label where the ‘Danfo Drivers’ is currently signed on, said the group is embarking on the Canada musical tour at the invitation of Canada based Elite Entertainment group.
She said “a good number of Afro beat fans in Canada are already looking forward to the musical tour as they feel nostalgic of the high performance of the ‘Danfo Drivers’ duo of Mad Melon and Mountain Black back back in the days before the unceremonious passage of Mad Melon some six years ago.”

The duo of Mad Melon and Mountain Black who grew up in Ajegunle area of Lagos as ‘brothers’ had taken to commercial bus driving, plying the Mile Two to Ojo route to make ends meet until their musical talent was discovered by Cornerstone Music in early 2000. They subsequently became popular.
They rose to become one of Nigeria’s best music duo and international stars to come out of Ajegunle Lagos where they had their childhood years. Ajegunle was a Lagos low class area with slums and unhealthy life style years back.

The group subsequently gained fame over the years with their hit song “I am a Danfo Driver Suo.” The song became a major achievement, reaching number one in the nation’s musical chart for 13 weeks in 2003.
In 2005 Mad Melon and Mountain Black released their second album titled “Danfo Travels: Success Story.’. Though the duo had their challenges at some point in their musical career but they managed to overcome as their popularity among their fans was still intact.

Regrettably, Mad Melon died in September, 2019 of an undisclosed illness. Since then his partner, Mountain Black has moved on, maintaining the same group identity. He completed a musical tour of Europe earlier this year and now it is Canada’s turn, to see the legend perform during the seven cities tour.
Mountain Black is currently working on a new music video to mark his new album and according to his Promotion firm, at the Canada shows in the seven cities, upcoming local artistes are expected to open the stage to showcase their talent before Danfo Drivers would take the stage.
