The Commissioner of Police, in charge of Police Special Fraud Unit (SFU) Ikoyi-Lagos, Okunade Ronke Nurat, has harped on the need for team managers and other senior officers in charge of sub-units to promote professionalism, civility, and accountability at all times in the course of their duty.

In her address on Wednesday at a strategic meeting with team managers, the Commissioner charged all officers to uphold the highest standards of conduct in their interaction with members of the public. She reiterated that civility and respect are non-negotiable traits for effective policing and public trust.

The Commissioner underscored the importance of respect and protection of fundamental human rights as enshrined in Chapter IV of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) even as she reminded officers on the need to ascertain the condition of suspects before and after detention in line with the provisions of Section 8 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015; as safeguarding these rights is sacrosanct to building public trust.

Highlighting the importance of accountability, CP Okunade Ronke Nurat, urged officers to take full responsibility of their actions and ensure close supervision of men working under them.

She emphasised that effective supervision improves discipline and enhances operational efficiency just as she reaffirmed the SFU’s commitment to promoting integrity, responsiveness and accountability.
