Doctors are now battling to save the life of a 500-level mechanical engineering student of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, (FUPRE) Effurun, Delta State following what may be described as self induced accident.

The accident occurred Wednesday afternoon in the permanent campus of the fast growing specialized University.

The final year student whose name was simply given as Chuks was said to be in wild jubilation with some of his course mates soon after they completed their last examination paper as 2021 graduating students of the first Petroleum University in Africa.

Some students (names withheld) of the institution who witnessed the incident told AtlanticNewsonline that Chuks and his colleagues had mounted the roof of a car and were driving round the campus in excitement, drinking and jubilating as they had successfully completed their last examination paper preparatory to graduation.

The merry making according to our sources, assumed a dangerous and sorrowful dimension when suddenly Chuks and one of his colleagues fell off from top of the moving vehicle they were using for the show off.

They had reportedly fallen on the motor way within the campus with Chuks fatally smashing his head on the hard tarred source, leaving him to bleed profusely.

According to the witnesses, his condition was near death before some students rushed him to an undisclosed hospital in Effurun town while his colleague did not sustain much injury.

Effort to reach the Public Relations Officer of the University as at press time did not yield positive result and another official spoken to on phone said he was not in a position to confirm the incident as he was not readily available on campus and neither was he authorised to speak on behalf of the school.

AtlanticNewsonline could also not immediately reach the doctors at the hospital the injured Chuks was rushed to, as none of the students who spoke, knew the name and location of the hospital.
