The Head of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Faculty of Computing, at the University of Delta, Agbor, Dr.Richard Oveh has harped on the relevance of ICT career day as he described the programme as a strategic part of the Department’s mission to bridge the gap between academia and industry.

He said that lCT had been one of the most dynamic and fast evolving fields in the world and noted that the students in the Department must be prepared, not just with theoretical knowledge, but also with real world insights, industry -relevant skills and a clear understanding of emerging career paths.
He made this disclosure at the maiden edition of the University’s Information Communication Technology career day which held recently.

Dr. Oveh also posited that the programme presented a rare opportunity for the students to learn from seasoned professionals, interact with potential employers and begin to envision a clear pathway from the lecture hall to the workplace and entrepreneurship.
The Dean, Faculty of Computing, Dr.Ejaita Okpako in his speech thanked the staff in the Department for making sure that the program recorded a huge success.

He pointed out that some of the objectives of the lCT Career Day were to provide students with information on career opportunities in the lCT industry, equip them with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the lCT industry, facilitate networking opportunities between students, academic and industry professionals.

He commended the University Management for their massive support in ensuring the success of the programme.

The first guest speaker, Mr. Kingsley Ediowe x-rayed the major careers paths in technology and how to adequately build a career path.

The second speaker Mr.Oghenetanure Okale, spoke on consumer business, careers and enterprises. He discussed at length, how ICT provided products, solutions and service to customers. Both lectures were done via online.

Mr. Stephen Ogunlade, the third speaker, took a detailed look at current trends in the lCT industry with emphasis on AI and machine learning, cloud Computing (AWS, Azure, GCP), cyber security, data science and big data, full-stack web and mobile development as well as game development and AR/VR.

Speaking to journalists after the event, some of the students said the programe was an eye-opening experience and disclosed that they gained valuable insights into the latest trends and opportunities in the lCT industry.
They maintained that they were impressed by the lectures and felt confident that their career prospects in the ICT industry looked very bright and looked forward to applying the knowledge and skills gained from the exercise in their future endeavors.
The program also featured a drama by the students which highlighted the power of information and communication technology.
