MEET FRANK OSHANUGOR

Following the demise of former President Muhammadu Buhari in United Kingdom on Sunday evening, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has consoled Mrs. Aisha Buhari over the incident.
In a statement by Tinubu’s spokesman, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, the President was said to have spoken with Buhari’s widow and offered “deep condolences” over the demise of her husband after a protracted illness.

The President was also said to have directed his Vice, Alhaji Kashim Shettima to proceed to United Kingdom and accompany the remains of the late former President back to Nigeria.

As a mark of honour for the departed President, Tinubu has also directed that Nigeria’s flag should be flown half mast.
The late Buhari whose health was reported to have become critical a few days ago was Nigeria’s President from 2015 to 2023 during which Nigerians experienced one of the worst economic hardships in the history of the country. He handed over to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May, 2023.

Nigerians would also remember him as a military head of state who intervened in 1983 to halt the drifting of the country into cesspit of high degree corruption promoted by the Second Republic politicians.

His military regime between December 1983 and 1985 when it was over thrown had championed a national war against corruption and indiscipline, combating all manner of criminal activities including trafficking in hard drugs.

Buhari, who died at the age of 82 years, in spite of the ruthlessness of his military regime was however adjudged by many Nigerians as not ostentatious like some past and present leaders of the country.

He was not known for any deep-rooted inclination for primitive accumulation and he tried his best not to work on that route throughout his days in office.
