Students of various institutions of learning in Nigeria have been advised to always show gratitude to their parents and reciprocate the huge sacrifices of giving them good education even at the tertiary level.

The Vice Chancellor of Western Delta University (WDU), Ogharra, Delta State, Prof. Augustine Ikelegbe gave the advice while speaking to newly admitted students at the institution’s matriculation ceremony recently.

Speaking on the theme: “Consolidating growth and optimising quality education for self actualisation and development” Ikelegbe in his fifteen-page address, among other things, noted that Nigerian parents were making so much sacrifice to give their children quality education and such children would have no option but to reciprocate the sacrifices of their parents through good conduct while in school and positive contributions to the family upon graduation.

While congratulating the matriculants, the Vice Chancellor charged them to always take their academics seriously and adhere strictly to the University rules by abstaining from all forms of cultism and related social vices.

The matriculation ceremony which attracted the presence of dignitaries, parents and friends of the matriculants was an occasion to always remember as photographers had a field day snapping the new students who were posing in different groups with their families, friends and others.

Meanwhile, a team of officials from the National Universities Commission (NUC) was at the WDU on March 18, 2024 on verification exercise for two new programmes namely Doctor of Physiotherapy (Dpt) and Bachelor of Science, Public Health.

This verification has brought to four, the number of departments in the College of Applied Health Sciences currently headed by Prof. Raphael Mbadiwe Mordi as the Dean.

The Western Delta University, Ogharra is a privately owned tertiary institution established over a decade ago. The school is strategically located on Benin-Sapele Road, about twenty-five kilometers from the Edo State capital of Benin-City.

It is located on a serene environment which is very conducive for learning.

The University’s second semester of 2023/2024 session has since begun and would end in July, 2024. Like other tertiary institutions, WDU is poised to render quality education and has its doors open for potential students.
