The President-Elect of the National Association Of Delta State Students Union (NADESSTU), Comrade Monday Wiska has congratulated the incoming Governor Of Delta State Rt. Honourable Oborevwori Sheriff, who is currently Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly.
He has also urged the Governor-Elect to make a downward review of the high school fees in the Delta State Higher Institutions of learning pointing out that it would reduce the sufferings of parents and increase students’ enrolment in all the State Academic Institutions.
Wiska made this known on Tuesday at NUJ Press Centre, Asaba, Delta State while briefing Journalists.
He also urged the incoming Governor to jettison multiple appointments incharge of Students Affairs as it was responsible for infighting in NADESSTU.
Speaking on the harsh economic situation in the country, the President Elect also appealed to the incoming Governor of Delta State to increase the Bursary paid to Delta State Students while number of scholarships should be increased.
Wiska during his speech further congratulated the members of the newly constituted DESOPADEC Board as he urged them to expand Scholarship scheme to involve students from the oil producing Areas.
The new helmsman of NADESSTU, assured members that his government would serve their interests; pointing out that the Egyptian they literally saw before would be seen no more.
Speaking further, he said that his visit and consultations within the four Zones of the Union had kept him abreast with the challenges of the Union which his government would surmount.
Meanwhile, he emphasized that the Union was about to enjoy a new lease of life.
” Delta Students should rejoice because the Egyptian you see today, you shall see no more, in the course of my consultation across the four Zones, I have the rare privilege to be inundated with the peculiar challenges and plight of our Students and the issues that continue to undermine and divide our dear Association. It is my to pledge that my administration will address all these concerns and put them to a permanent rest”. Said the President Elect.
While harping on prudence and accountability, he declared that all those who in the past had misappropriated the finances of NADESSTU must be brought to book.
The President Elect specifically mentioned and fowned at the diverted N25m earmarked by the State Government for Students Town Hall Meetings as an aberration. He promised members that all property and belongings of the Union must be judiciously used for the benefits of the Students.
On behalf of his Union, he thanked the Nigerian Union Of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council for providing the enabling Platform just as he pledged an enduring collaboration with NUJ.
