The Nigeria Police Force may be working against itself as some of its personnel seem ever willing to be used as tools by some

people with connections at higher quarters to do dirty jobs against the overall interest of the Force.

This is obviously what is playing out with the invasion of Ubulu-Okiti community in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State at about 1.30am on Saturday (today) by police officers allegedly from Zone 5 Police Headquarters, Benin-City.

The policemen who were said to have come in four Sienna vehicles forcefully gained access into the houses of three indigenes among whom are the Ogwuluzame of Ubulu-Okiti, Chief Linus Osemene, Messrs Chijioke Agafie and Japhet Biose.

The policemen who were reported to be fully armed with riffles had forced themselves in a commando-like manner into the houses of the three persons. They were initially suspected to be kidnappers and members of their households had raised alarm but to no avail as the policemen eventually whisked them away in the ungodly hours.

Sources close to the Divisional Police Headquarters at Ogwashi-Uku told ATLANTICNEWSONLINE that following the recent land crisis involving suspected agents of the Ogwashi-Uku monarch and Ubulu-Okiti, Aniagbala-Ubulu-Uku communities, a petition was written to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge. It was learnt that some representatives of Ubulu-Okiti and Ogwashi-Uku communities were invited on Friday by the DPO for interaction.

One of the reliable sources confirmed that after discussing with the DPO, all the parties were advised to be at the Delta State Police Command Headquarters, Asaba on Monday 23rd December, 2024 for a meeting with the State Commissioner of Police on the matter.

“It was therefore a big surprise that in spite of this approach, police personnel from Zone 5 headquarters in Benin-City came like kidnappers at ungodly hours to arrest Okiti, people” the source remarked.

The Delta State Police spokesman Superintendent of Police, Bright Edafe on behalf of the Command, denied any involvement of police men from Delta Command. Effort to reach the Force Public Relations Officer, (FPRO) Olumuyiwa Adejobi, an Assistant Commissioner of Police through his mobile phone line has not been possible as he could not pick his calls.

In recent weeks, Ubulu-Okiti, Aniagbala-Ubulu-Uku and other communities have suffered terror attacks from suspected agents of Obi Ifechukwude Aninshi Okonjo of Ogwashi-Uku who has embarked on expansionist mission, grabbing lands that do not belong to his kingdom.

His terror gang had in recent time destroyed multi billion naira economic trees and farm lands belonging to people in the different communities. One of his latest victims was a former banker Mr. Luke Ejiofor whose plantation lost about 6000 palm trees and 100 beehives to Okonjo’s agents some of whom were captured by gallant youths last Monday but later released.
