Incredible: Enugu Commissioner Resigns Over Governor’s Alleged High-Handedness

In a rare display of self image protection and integrity, the Enugu State Commissioner for Land and Urban Development; Dr. Victor Chukwuemeka Nnam has resigned his appointment, citing official meddlesomeness as his compelling reason for doing so.

According to Surveyor Nnam in a letter dated 29th October, 2021 addressed to the Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; a copy of which is in the social media, he could no longer continue in office as Commissioner when the professional heads of his department under him have been removed from office on “punitive ground.”

The Commissioner in his letter said: “Sir when you appointed me the Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Enugu State in 2019, I accepted the appointment with the hope that I was going to be allowed to bring on board world best practices in land administration. I immediately proposed for the establishment of a GIS land administration system to enable the Ministry stamp out land grabbers and create investors’ confidence in our land system. The proposal was rejected without explanation till date.

“However, the reason for my resignation is the recent removal of the professional heads of department under me on punitive ground for simply doing their jobs diligently. My conscience will no longer allow me to continue to serve your administration while those innocent professional senior civil servants are punished for doing the right thing.

“I hereby resign my appointment as the Commissioner for Lands and Urban Development, Enugu State with effect from today Friday 29th of October, 2021 and submit the Black Prado SUV with plate number 1ENSG 5712 to your office. Thank you, your Excellency for giving me the opportunity to serve the good people of Enugu State.”

Effort made to confirm the authenticity of the letter from the Governor’s office proved abortive as known phone numbers to the Governor’s aides were switched off, probably because this is weekend.

From the copy of the letter in the social media, one Mr. Nebo Innocent signed as having received the original of the letter in the Governor’s office.
