The grandfather of a suspected member of the illegal Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBTQ) group in Edo State who narrowly escaped death last December, 2023 from an anti-LGBTQ elements has been discharged from hospital after six months.
Atlanticnewsonline sources close to Mr. Billy Edafe, grand father of Miss Favour Edafe, a female boxer disclosed that the octogenarian was discharged from an unidentified hospital in Edo State last week.
Trouble had reportedly started on December 20, 2023 when a group of anti-LGBTQ members led by Mr. Muhammad Samaila stormed the residence of Mr. Billy Edafe, grand father of Favour Edafe. Favour is believed to be a lesbian partner with Miss Amiwa Samaila, daughter of Muhammad Samaila. Whereabouts of both ladies have remained unknown.
A reliable source at Ubiaja, Edo State confided in our reporter that Amiwa and Favour were once Lesbian partners but father of Amiwa (Muhammad Samaila) who is the leader of the community vigilante in their area has been strongly against it.
As a devout Muslim and politician, Muhammad Samaila is said to be strongly opposed to lesbianism, hence he went after Favour Edafe, a suspected lesbian partner to his daughter (Amiwa).
Miss Favour Edafe is the only female boxer among the team Nigeria boxers that represented the country in 2023 and 2024 editions of Golden Glove boxing tournament in Calgary Alberta, Canada where she won a Gold and a Silver medals.
It was gathered that when Muhammad Samaila and his group went in search of Billy Edafe’s place at Ubiaja on the suspicion that Favour was around but could not be found, Muhammad Samaila and his anti-LGBTQ members angrily descended on Billy Edafe inflicting injuries on his body and eyes as a result of which he became partially blind for months as he has lost one eye.
The mob also destroyed his farm, properties in addition to killing two innocent neighbours who had tried to intervene when crisis ensued at Billy Edafe’s residence.
Leader of the anti-LGBTQ group, Muhammad Samaila was said to have vowed not to relent in his fight against the gay and lesbian culture in their communities and other parts of Nigeria irrespective of who is involved.
Efforts to speak with Mr. Billy Edafe has not been successful as he was said to still be afraid of his safety and has chosen to go underground to avoid a repeat attack from Samaila and her radical supporters.
Meanwhile, the Edo State Police spokesperson could not pick calls from our reporter nor respond to questions sent to his WhatsApp on the incident.
It will be recalled that the Nigeria government has since outlawed lesbian, gay, bisexual and Transgender related activities and has made involvement in same sex relationship a punishable offence.
