MEET FRANK OSHANUGOR
By Frank Oshanugor
The restive-ness over the prolonged reconstitution of a substantive Board of Directors for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has finally been put to rest as President Muhammadu Buhari has appointed his Special Adviser on Social Media; Miss Lauretta Onochie as the new Chairman of the NDDC Board.
The President had on Wednesday asked the Senate to confirm the appointment of Onochie as the substantive Chairman of the Board of the Commission.
Buhari’s letter which was read at plenary by the Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, also named 15 others as members of the Board.
It will be recalled that Onochie, an indigene of Delta State who has been a committed and loyal aide to the President was earlier nominated as a Electoral Commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in 2021 but was not confirmed by the Senate as the nomination violated the constitutional Federal Character principle.
Another indigene of Delta State was already an INEC Electoral Commissioner as at the time Onochie was nominated.
In spite of the Senate’s non confirmation of the presidential nomination for the INEC job, Onochie has remained committed in her duties with unwavering loyalty to the President as a Special Adviser on Social Media.
