Communities described as currently under siege over their lands in Aniocha South Local Government Area of Delta State have cried out to the state government urging it to quickly intervene in several land disputes that are capable of stoking violence in the affected areas.

A press release on Wednesday signed by a High Chief (Onishe Ubulu), Dr. Emma Ejiofor on behalf of Ubulu Communities stated, “We, the undersigned, strongly condemn the actions of the Obi of Ogwashi Uku for his alleged attempts to annex neighboring communities through territorial conquest. His actions disregard centuries of peaceful coexistence and demonstrate a profound lack of understanding of democratic norms.

“The Obi’s claims are based on purported consent judgments using allegedly forged documents, despite his family having no historical connection to the targeted lands. This blatant disregard for the rights and well-being of the affected communities is unacceptable in the 21st century.”

The communities in the press release further stated that “this behavior invites communal strife and violence. We urge the Delta State government to intervene immediately to prevent potential bloodshed.

The government should investigate these allegations, caution the Obi against further aggression, and direct security agencies to take appropriate action to

protect the affected communities from the Obi’s wanton destruction of their property and crops. Swift intervention is crucial to prevent a full-blown conflict,” they cautioned.
