A stalwart of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and strong opponent to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Queer and Transgender (LGBQT) culture in Edo State, Mr. Momodu Bukhari seems to be getting ready for a Senatorial seat in the 2027 Nigeria’s general election.
Close associates to the man told our reporter that following the victory of APC in the last governorship election which brought in Monday Okpebholo as the governor, Bukhari who is said to be a close ally to the governor is quite hopeful to win the Senatorial Seat of his Edo North Senatorial District in the forthcoming election.
Apart his closeness to the governor, Bukhari is also believed to be leveraging on the popularity he has gained so far in his Anti-LGBQT advocacy.
A very reliable source close to him, told our reporter that within his Muslim community in Edo State particularly in the northern part of the State which is predominantly Muslim, Bukhari would win any election overwhelmingly among the populace.
His Anti-LGBQT activism over the years is said to have endeared him to many Islamic elements who strongly abhor the same-sex relationship in every ramification, particularly among the youths.
Though, his Senatorial ambition has not been confirmed yet, another credible source hinted of Bukhari’s plan to set up his media office soon with a view to putting publicity structures in place preparatory to when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would lift ban on 2027 politicking.
Some social analysts conversant with his Anti-LGBQT activism told our reporter that if he eventually finds his way to the National Assembly as a Senator, he may
be a strong advocate for harsher punishment for any breach of the anti-same sex law.
