Following the reported story in the social media on Wednesday about a peace meeting between representatives of the Ogwashi-Uku and Ubulu-Uku monarchs in Delta North over claims of Ubulu-Uku territory by the Obi of Ogwashi-Uku,

the traditional Prime Minister of Ubulu-Uku, Chief Emma Ejiofor, has accused Obi Ifechukwude Okonjo, of land grabbing in the Aniagbala farmlands and Ubulu Okiti.

In a press statement on Thursday, Ejiofor rejected a press release claiming that the land dispute has been resolved. According to him, the press release was misleading and from “an unrecognized source”. He has therefore warned “those aiding Obi Okonjo to stop or face consequences.”

Ejiofor highlighted that the government’s white paper on the Commission of Inquiry into land disputes has not been released, yet Obi Okonjo allegedly forcefully seized the land using security personnel, causing disruption and violence.

Dr. Emma Ejiofor, a one time Deputy Chief of Staff to Delta State Deputy Governor has further urged for restraint until the government’s official findings are published.

Meanwhile, Obi Okonjo has denied the land-grabbing allegations, calling them a smear campaign by those profiting from illegal land sales. The Delta State government is investigating the matter and awaits the Commission of Inquiry’s report expected in January 2025.

The government has assured that it is committed to upholding the law and ensuring security for all.
